INTRODUCTION TO AYURVEDA
This presentation will Introduce you to the ancient teachings of Ayurveda, Yoga’s sister science for preventative and curative health. Ayurveda is often translated as the ‘Science of Life’. It is a way of understanding ourselves and the world in which we exist and how the two impact each other. We will look at the basic concepts, spending time with the bio-physical energies known as the doshas of Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
This presentation will explore how these two aspects intersect and why it’s different for us all. This relationship forms a crucial foundation from which to build a healthy but balanced approach for vital living. We can eat ‘healthy’ but if our ability to transform food into essential nutrients is compromised, health may prove illusive. We will unpack the general details that will lead us to a workshop where you will get to design wellness plans based on your individual make up.
From time immemorial all world traditions have embraced this idea. As it’s impossible for most of us to stay on track all the time and or not be affected by the pollution in our environment, seasonal cleansing could be the piece of the wellness puzzle, you’ve been looking for. We will explore ways of approaching this foundational health practice that work for you as an individual.
Similar to Chinese medicine’s acupuncture points the 108 access areas are located all over the body and connect all our organs and systems. They have a profound effect from improving cardiovascular health to soothing nerves, cleansing organs and moving our vital force known as Chi in Chinese medicine and Prana in yoga. Moving this vital force in the correct way around the body has an effect on your immunity and resilience. You will learn how to work with some of the key points. This useful selfcare tool is available to you 24/7 giving you personal power over your wellbeing. Knowing how to use these points can help improve immunity, aid pain and slow down the affects of aging.
Using the traditional Hatha Yoga methods which were designed to keep the body, strong, flexible and balanced are combined with Chi-Gong style flowing movements. This style of yoga has a focus on correct alignment is accessible to all and allows you to personalise your practice.
Somatic yoga combines somatics, a movement practice concerned with how things feel from within, with yoga. Somatics was developed by Thomas Hanna in the 1970s. It helps retrain the brain to allow muscles to relax fully and go back to their natural state, undoing habitual learned movement patterns that can lead to pain, misalignment and chronic discomfort.
Restorative yoga is a style of yoga that encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Appropriate for all levels, restorative yoga is practiced at a slow pace, focusing on long holds, stillness, and deep breathing.show.
